#12 — The Future of APIs in the World of Generative AI
I recently had two distinct conversations that warranted me to research this topic. One of the conversations was focused on how APIs (Application Programming Interface) in the Generative AI world would allow for real-time automated code generation, taking away the need for programmers to write APIs. Another conversation focused on writing APIs using new, efficient, reliable, low-cost, and real-time basis, removing the need for programmers to spend weeks and months on it.
Introduction and the Current state of API’s:
APIs have traditionally been used to extract data, provide data, allow for interoperability, and extend the functionalities of applications seamlessly across diverse systems. Back in the day, we called these standalone systems Monoliths, which would independently work, get the job done, and not collaborate with the ecosystem of applications around them. The advent of APIs changed that forever, laying the groundwork for the digital ecosystem of the future. In the era that we live in now, with the advancement of Generative AI, we are likely going to see major shifts in API development, deployment, and testing.
