#8 — Unlocking Creativity and Innovation: The Importance of Art in STEM Education (or STEAM)
I repeatedly hear from my kids about the importance of Art and the role that Art plays in their lives, along with Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics (STEM) education of today. We forget how important Art has been in shaping our future, from the Renaissance age through today. In the technological life we live today, even Generative AI is incomplete without contributions from the likes of Midjourney and DALL-E.
Rather than driving just the importance of STEM — we need to focus on STEAM in our education system, where the A stands for Art and helping drive a collaboration between all the 5 disciplines to make STEAM an interdisciplinary stream.
Introduction
Our day doesn’t start without appreciation for Art, whether it’s the pictures hanging in our bedrooms or our living rooms, the beauty of nature, or the architecture of our homes and things around us. We are surrounded by Art, everywhere.
With the introduction of Design Thinking in Technology developments, Data Visualization, Architectural Innovations, Entertainment & Gaming Industry, Fashion, Medical & Scientific illustration, Robotics, and AI, there is never an aspect of Art that is not touched in our day-to-day lives.
